Create Your First Canvas
Four ways to get your business model into LEANSpark — from a 60-second import to a guided conversation.
What you’ll learn
Four ways to create a Lean Canvas in LEANSpark, and when to use each one. By the end, you’ll have your first canvas ready to stress-test.
Before you start
You need a LEANSpark account. If you haven’t signed up yet, start here.
Steps
Step 1 — Start a new idea
From your dashboard, click Start a New Idea. LEANSpark will ask how you’d like to create your canvas.

Step 2 — Choose your method
Method A: Paste a URL (fastest — under 60 seconds)
Best for: Businesses with a landing page or public description online.
Paste the URL and LEANSpark reads the page, identifies the business model elements, and generates a canvas from what it finds.
Method B: Upload a PDF (under 60 seconds)
Best for: Existing Lean Canvases, business plans, or pitch decks in PDF format.
Upload your document and LEANSpark extracts the relevant information into canvas format.
Method C: Import from Lean Stack
Best for: Users who already have a Lean Canvas on leanstack.com.
Connect your Lean Stack account and import an existing canvas directly — no re-entry needed.
Method D: Describe your idea (most thorough)
Best for: Ideas that exist in your head but aren’t documented anywhere yet.
Tell LEANSpark about your business in plain English. This is a multi-turn conversation — LEANSpark will ask follow-up questions to fill in the gaps, so expect a few minutes of back-and-forth. The result is typically the most nuanced canvas because it captures how you actually think about your business.
Step 3 — Review your canvas
Regardless of method, LEANSpark maps your input to the 9 sections of a Lean Canvas: Problem, Customer Segments, Unique Value Proposition, Solution, Channels, Revenue Streams, Cost Structure, Key Metrics, and Unfair Advantage.

What to look for
- Coverage: Did LEANSpark fill all 9 sections? Empty sections often signal gaps in your thinking — that’s useful information.
- Accuracy: Does the canvas reflect what you actually meant? Edit any section that feels off — the generated canvas is a starting point, not the final word.
- Method matters: Import methods (URL, PDF, Lean Stack) are fast but may over-index on marketing language. The conversational method is slower but captures how you actually think about the business. Choose based on what you need right now.
